In honor of its 75th year, the Clearview Legacy Foundation began a campaign to endow Clearview and preserve its important role in history. Without access to traditional golf maintenance equipment, Bill began building his course by hand and the original 9 holes opened in 1948. In 1946, he established Clearview Golf Club in East Canton, Ohio. When Renee’s father, Bill Powell, encountered racial discrimination on the golf course after returning home from World War II, he decided to build his own course where everyone would be welcome. Legacy Partners: KPMG, LPGA, Mariah Stackhouse Additionally, new recipients of the LPGA Renee Powell Grant will be honored 2020 LPGA Ellen Griffin Rolex Award winner Renee Powell and 5-year LPGA Tour veteran Mariah Stackhouse will also sit down with guests to share their perspectives on diversity in the game and how we can continue to change the face of golf. The golf outing will include specific challenges on each hole to raise awareness of the event’s overall mission, with LPGA Tour players and LPGA*USGA Girls Golf members stationed on the various holes. This year’s Benefit will continue to showcase LPGA legend Renee Powell’s impact on the past, present and future of the game. Events during the past couple of years have raised over $500,000 for the Clearview Legacy Foundation and through outreach to local minority youth programs, over 200 junior golfers in the Atlanta and DC areas participated in a clinic sponsored by PGA REACH. Clearview is the only course designed, built, owned and operated by an African American - Renee’s father, Bill. The THIRD annual Renee Powell Clearview Legacy Benefit is a fundraiser to celebrate Clearview Golf Club and raise awareness of Renee Powell’s contribution and impact on women’s golf, with proceeds benefiting the Clearview Legacy Foundation.
